Vincent Lowry writes an intimate portrait of life, the "golden nuggets of goodness, of dignity, of love for us to share later on?" He begins with a carefree spring in New Orleans, recreating the lush sights and odors relishing the colors awakening his senses. He mourns the loss of his dog in "Buster," recalling the sweet moments of their life together "when I held you in one hand while opening the front door or the way you'd curl in my lap." "Family of Six," poignantly evokes an empty nest as the once busy rooms now are laid bare, their occupants moved on, leaving only "silence inside the closet.""Through a Jack-o Lantern's Eyes," is a stunning story of the "king of vegetables," brought low, defaced, it's dignity "severed, disfigured, exiled," all by "executioners, big and small."
Then onto the discovery of love, the understanding that time is precious and fleeting is explored. Forgiveness, as well as a reverent ode to a mother follow, as time moves on, but the power of love is fully understood as fatherhood brings a new depth of understanding to the poems. Where before, a poet sees flowers, sand, and nature's bounty, a father sees life through his son's eyes, a more perfect beauty. "The most striking part of that picture is our gaze, and I hope it always remains." Pictures may fade, but the written word will be there forever. A beautiful, beautiful book.

Surfing the Seconds Vincent Lowry 9781494462277 Books Reviews
There wasn't a moment of this book that I did not enjoy...it was wonderful!! My favorite poem was the one about the Jack-O-Lantern O)
I love the way Vincent Lowry writes, each word a picture, each line a memory waiting to be revisited. I have so many book marks and underlines in this kindle edition that I found it hard to pick one line to share. would make a great Father's Day gift for the men that love to read, because he has many poems to his son.

I received this book from the author in return for an honest review.
This poetry book is on fire. I absolutely loved how in each poem it took me somewhere different. I read poetry only occasionally and I'm never really hooked unless it's slam poetry. This was a new experience for me. The cover is extremely beautiful, it's eye-catching for sure. Some of the poems actually reminded me of what the '60s and '70s might have been like. For some reason, I felt like I was traveling through different time periods, and new cities/states/even countries. It's kind of crazy. The writing is noticeably detailed and alluring. I believe Vincent Lowry put a lot of time and effort into his work; it certainly shows. Wonderfully composed.

I have loved Vincent Lowry's poetry for the past few years now. Every poem is a jewel and a winner. Vincent can take any subject, but tends to write about feelings that every person has to deal with in their lives, and brings it to a simple and satisfying conclusion. His words are those we all understand, even if metaphorically written, and so they appeal to all kinds of people....hence I believe most would enjoy this book of poems even if it were not their normal fare of reading.
When I read poetry, I want to be able to place myself into whatever topic, feeling or situation the poet has created for his readers. Vincent Lowry is the one poet I can read every day and always find one of his works that I will particularly gravitate toward no matter what is happening in my life or what my mood may be.
I encourage anyone to try reading this and not like it! Even those not particularly drawn to this writing style...I'm guessing you will discover Vincent's work is so readable, understandable and appealing that you will be a fan, too.
Keep it up, Vince! You are an excellent poet and a very kind person.
